Abilities Network Employment Resource
Our mission is to assist individuals of all abilities and their families in achieving their personal goals and in reaching their maximum potential. Services are tailored to support each person to live, work, socialize and to encourage the highest level of participation of each person in his/her community. We provide one-on-one, individually tailored services to people throughout Maryland and Washington D.C.

Alzheimer’s Association-National Capital Area
Since 1981, the National Capital Area (formerly the Greater Washington and Northern Virginia Chapters) has served as the region's primary support network and information resource for Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Through our numerous programs and services - including Helpline, support groups, Safe Return, workshops and conferences for both caregivers and professionals, public policy efforts, and community awareness activities - the National Capital Area provides help and hope to the over 460,000 individuals in Northern Virginia, Suburban Maryland and Washington, DC who are facing the daily challenges of Alzheimer's.

American Association of People with Disabilities – Washington, DC
AAPD is the largest national nonprofit cross-disability member organization in the United States, dedicated to ensuring economic self-sufficiency and political empowerment for the more than 56 million Americans with disabilities. AAPD works in coalition with other disability organizations for the full implementation and enforcement of disability nondiscrimination laws, particularly the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Center for the Study and Advancement of Disability Policy
The Center for the Study and Advancement of Disability Policy (CSADP) provides public education, leadership development and training, technical assistance and information dissemination, and conducts action-research and analysis of public policy issues affecting individuals with disabilities and their families.

Disability Central
Disability Central is funded for a set period by the United States Department of Education to provide services and information which assists and empowers those with disabilities by providing information, networking, points-of-contact and friendship. Our intention is to be one of the best resources available to the disability community both on and off the Internet. We both employ and encourage those with disabilities as we pursue this first and primary goal.

Disability Data Resources
Numerous resources are available to provide statistical data to answer these questions and provide information on other disability related topics. Many resources now post their information on Web sites which makes researching disability data readily accessible and fast. Outlined on this site is information on some of the data resources regarding people with disabilities.

Disability Rights Council of Greater Washington
The DRC was established in 1992 as a regional advocacy organization to promote, secure and protect the civil rights of people with disabilities. The DRC combats systemic discrimination against people with disabilities, especially as to the facilities and services of privately-owned businesses (such as retail stores, restaurants, and movie theaters) and state and local governments (such as polling places, courthouses, and 911 emergency services).

National Multiple Sclerosis Society
Founded in 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is the most comprehensive resource on MS-related information in the United States.

National Organization on Disability
The mission of the National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.) is to expand the participation and contribution of America's 54 million men, women and children with disabilities in all aspects of life. By raising disability awareness through programs and information, together we can work toward closing the participation gaps.

Parent Training and Information Center (PTI)
In 1996, Advocates for Justice and Education, Inc. (AJE) was created as a mechanism to increase parental involvement in the education of children with special needs. A.J.E. uses parent empowerment as a model to address grave injustices in the delivery of services to meet the most basic special education needs.

The National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities
The center that provides information to the nation on:

  • disabilities in children and youth;
  • programs and services for infants, children, and youth with disabilities;
  • IDEA, the nation's special education law;
  • No Child Left Behind, the nation's general education law; and
  • research-based information on effective practices for children with disabilities.

Anyone can use our services-families, educators, administrators, journalists, students. Our special focus is children and youth (birth to age 22).
