Our Mission
The DC Coalition on Long Term Care’s mission is to expand and improve the quality of long-term care programs to ensure that low-income Washington, DC residents with chronic care and/or disability needs can age in the community safely and with dignity. The Coalition not only engages with the work of federal agencies, and other District agencies, but also engages with consumers who continue to provide a unique and invaluable feedback loop for the Coalition’s advocacy in the community.
The DC Coalition brings together consumers, advocates, and health care providers to work with the District government on long-term care issues. Its mission is to expand existing, and create new, long-term care services available through Medicaid to low-income District adults with chronic health care needs. For 20 years, the Coalition has made significant progress in the District.
Our Priorities
In addition to the progress that has been accomplished, and despite the setbacks that have been imposed, The Coalition continues to pursue old challenges and new goals. We will continue to work hard on these issues in 2017:
- Further implement the Nursing Assistive Personnel (NAP) Regulations, as well as conduct appropriate testing to standardize training and regulate performance.
- Actualize a nutrition component for the EPD Waiver that will bring quality home-delivered meals to vulnerable District residents.
- Improve efforts for quality monitoring of home care agencies and workers.
- Advocate for enforcing the Living Wage Law for home care workers by the Department of Employee Services and other agencies.
- Revise the home health agency licensure regulations to protect consumers and attract quality providers.
- Expand the Money Follows the Person program, and increase accessibility to in-home support and Participant Directed Services.
- Expand coverage of long term care services and streamline the Medicaid waiver process to accommodate for an increased number of applicants.
- Continue to support the development of a Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly program in Wards 7 and 8.
- Implement a Certified Nursing Assistant Training program in DC public schools to encourage a career path in healthcare for students and strengthen the direct care workforce.
- Build a business model for DC’s first home care cooperative agency.
- Continue to develop and improve our website and social media presence
